Look up.
Last week, a former client of mine who moved his family to Hawaii last year, sent me a video of this palm tree. He referenced the coronavirus in his text and wished me well.
Curious to learn what the video was about, I quickly pressed the play button. For the next 60 seconds, the only image that filled the screen was the tree and the only sound I heard was the wind blowing, with varying degrees of intensity.
I was transfixed.
As I watched the trunk sway side to side and the leaves rustle, I noticed that after every gust of wind had passed, the tree returned to its upright position. It was peaceful and still again.
Given the current state of the world, I couldn’t help but ponder the wisdom of this tree’s response to the wind.
It was flexible.
It was strong.
It was beautiful.
I vowed right then and there that I would strive to respond to these uncertain times just like this tree.
And, if I lose my bearings, I will simply look up.
